Guidelines for Intrastate Moving in Michigan

The Michigan Public Service Commission regulates moving in Michigan to protect consumers and ensure safety. First of all, when hiring a moving company it is important to make sure they are licensed to transport your household goods. If in Michigan, we want to make our customers aware that although it may be challenging to find the right mover with the right prices, the State of Michigan requires all moving companies to have an Intrastate Motor Carrier Certificate – Household Goods licensed through the MPSC.

If it is an intrastate move with household goods (residential) or even moving your business or organization (commercial), moving companies’ prices are regulated for transportation by motor vehicle above 40 miles. Also, intrastate moves can be moving from what was East Detroit (now Eastpointe) to other cities like Ann Arbor in Washtenaw County. In addition, any distance within the state of Michigan over 40 miles is considered intrastate.

Intrastate Moving Company Services

This license is not required if you are doing an interstate move out of the State of Michigan moving from Detroit or the Downriver area. Also, this is important to know that even if you are moving from Detroit out of state the license is not required because it is governed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Furthermore, regardless if you are moving intrastate or moving from Michigan interstate to other states in the US within 500 miles, you as a consumer are protected.
