Moving Nightmares

Moving Nightmares

When you move to a new house, you need to be able to trust and depend on the moving company that you hire. You don’t want to have to worry about a bad move. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can go wrong when you don’t choose the right mover. You can be upcharged, items can be stolen or left behind, and more.

What Can Cause Moving Nightmares

  • Unclear Quotes

Customers use moving quotes to determine which company they should choose at which price. Most untrustworthy moving companies will give you low quotes but charge you more once the move is complete. Here at Men On The Move, we give honest and fair quotes to everyone whether they are family, friends, or strangers.

  • Up charging

Some companies will uncharge you for gas, distance, and more space for your items. It is the company’s job to determine how much truck space they will need in order to fit your items comfortably. If they try to charge you more for another truck, it is best to cancel the move with them and find a better, more reputable company.

  • Leaving items behind

Inexperienced movers tend to leave items behind if they do not fit in the truck. One of our customers complained that their previously hired mover left one-third of their items in Michigan when they moved to Virginia. These customers then hired us and we were able to move the remaining belongings to their new house in Virginia.

  • Stealing your belongings

You should always keep important documents and other important belongings on your person when you move. There is always a risk of theft when dealing with inexperienced companies. One of our customers hired a different moving company to move her from Michigan to Tennessee and the movers stole everything and never showed up to her new home.

  • Improper Handling of Items

Inexperienced movers tend to handle items improperly and break things as well. We have had customers tell us about previous moving experiences. A lot of undistinguished companies will fight your claims of broken or damaged furniture. Others will ignore them completely. For example, one of our customers told us about their previous moving experience in which the movers broke her grandmother’s mahogany rocking chair. They refused to pay her any restitution so she had to use her own money to get it fixed.

Hire a Mover You Can Trust

When choosing a mover, you need to find a mover that you can trust. You should go with someone you know and trust, don’t go with the cheapest price because a lot of times it ends up costing you more money and more headaches. Never choose a mover that is uninsured, has a poor online presence and bad reviews, or gives you a quote over the phone with little information.
