Michigan’s Economy

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

I was browsing over some stories on the internet this morning at work and I found this very interesting. It’s basically Michigan’s Economy at a glance. Check it out and as always would love to hear your coments.

Sonic finds spot in Westland

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Sonic, a 50’s style restaurant chain is finding a new home in Westland. Demolishing should start rather soon at the old Denny’s site by Westland Mall. THis should give a good boost to an area that has really needed something new. Not only does Sonic have great food but they ought to help bring business to surrounding retail business’s which could always use a little added boost as well. I want to commend Lori Fodale and Mayor Wild for continuing to bring in new business to our city.

Charity Poker Nights

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Well last night the Westland Historical Society held its first night of charity poker at Town N Country Lanes in Westland. It was kinda of a slow start but for a Wednesday that was expected. Toinight is the big FREE ROLL event starting at 700pm.

For those of you who havent heard about these events chances are they are happening around you. It’s a great way for community groups to make some good money without having to supply alot of man power. It requires that your group apply for a liscense thought the Michigan Gaming Commison and the cost is $200 for four nights. We work with Krazy Kopz Rentals and they are the best. You have to have 2 people there from 5:00-2:00 which is a long time but if you work in shifts it’s not so bad. Each group should be able to make somewhere between $2500-$4000 depending on the week. Again what a great idea. The only problem I see is more and more of these locations are poping up all over town which will end up pulling from one another.

Anyhow I will keep you guys posted on how it goes.

Dueling Piano Fundraiser Success

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

This passed Friday the Westland Chamber and the Westland Jaycees heald a Dueling Pianos fundraiser @ Joy Manor in Westland. We had about 125 people show up and all had a great time. We hired a group out of Saginaw called COOL 2 DUEL. Bill who is from Lansing Michigan , and Frank who is from Dearborn put on a great show for all. I would also like to thank the staff at Joy Manor who really took care of our group and served some GREAT food. We raised about $1500.00 for our organizations and had a great time. Special Thank you to Jamie and Brookellen from the Chamber that did a great job decorating the hall and coming up with the theme for the night.

On another note if you get a chance check out a new web site that is focusing on community events at www.enjoywestland.com

Movie Review

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Ok so most of you know my daughter and I are both movie fans its a great way to relax and spend some time together. This past weekend we saw 2 movies TAKEN and RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN. Taken was very action packed and had a couple good twist and turns in the story. If you have a daughter that is 16-18 and is asking to go away for spring breakĀ  or something like that this is a movie that would really influence your decision trust me. I wouldn’t recommend this movie to anyone under 16 but for adults or couples its a great movie to go see on a boring night. On the other hand Race to Witch Mountain was as good as the original years ago and is a great movie to take your kids to a lot of action and a lot of funny moments in this movie. The movie is a little corny at times but well worth admission for the family to see.

This week we are looking to see Last house on the left so stay tuned.
