Review Great experience - Will recommend again and again!

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

This was a review posted last night on Merchant Circle.

Rating: 5 stars (5 stars)
Text: “We’ve all heard the horror stories about movers: The hourly movers who move slow as molasses; the theft; the damaged property… From talking to Mike on the phone to set up a short notice move (on Father’s Day, no less) to Doug and Doug busting their butts, my experience with Men on the Move was fantastic! The Dougs arrived on time and got straight to work. - no loafing or chatting. They were very friendly to myself and to my dog (who kept getting in the way!) My brother hired movers not a week before me, and paid twice as much. (According to him, they moved half as fast.) I found Men on the Move while reading (horrible) reviews of Two Men and a Truck. Ask for the Dougs and tip them well!”

The Charter Township of Canton, usually referred to as Canton, is a charter township of Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a suburb of Detroit and only twenty minutes east of Ann Arbor. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 76,366. Based on statistics reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Canton was the nation’s 20th safest municipality with a population over 75,000 during 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2009[3]. The designation is based on crime statistics in six categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and auto theft.

Moving Scams

Monday, June 15th, 2009

This was a good article posted by the Texas attorney General. But it fits for all people that are moving.

Summer is the busiest time of year for moving companies. While most legitimate movers comply with the law, unfortunately a few unscrupulous operators employ a range of practices that take advantage of their customers.

Some unscrupulous movers give customers an artificially low estimate for their services. Then, on moving day, they revise their estimate and provide a much higher price. By that time, customers have no time to find another mover and have little choice but to go along with the increased rate.

Another type of moving scam is perpetrated after a customer’s belongings have been loaded up and hauled away. With the customers’ property in the movers’ possession, the company refuses to deliver or unload the customer’s property unless the customer agrees to pay a higher fee.

Knowledge is always a valuable weapon, so Texans in the market for a moving company should research several options and secure written estimates before moving day. Care also should be taken to ensure that movers are properly licensed and insured. Texans can look up a moving company’s rating and complaint history at the Better Business Bureau’s Web site, www.bbb.org.

Moving scam warning signs include:

• Movers that offer advance estimates without seeing their customers’ home or belongings. Estimates based on cubic footage are also red flags.
• Movers that fail to provide a copy of “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move.” This booklet must be provided to all customers who plan an interstate move. The federally mandated pamphlet contains instructions about how to respond if goods are lost or damaged during a move.
• Movers that require a large deposit or payment in cash.
• Movers that lack a local address and do not provide licensing information on their Web site. To check motor carrier registration status, consumers can visit  www.txdot.gov (in-state) and  www.protectyourmove.gov (interstate).

Movers are required by law to deliver a customer’s goods for no more than 10 percent above the price of a nonbinding estimate. Customers are not required to pay any amount above a binding estimate. The mover is required to bill customers for any additional charges within 30 days of delivery.

Detroit Zoo

Monday, June 1st, 2009

This past weekend I went to the Detroit Zoo with the Michigan Jaycees. It had been a couple years since I had been to the zoo so I was kinda looking forward to the trip. We got there about 10:00am and left about 2:00. We had a great time walking around and seeing all the different animals and seeing all the different scenes they where set in. Although we didn’t go into the Dinosaur area we did pay the extra to ride the simulator which was well worth the $3.00 extra. I should also add our group had set it up for us to eat lunch while there and it was very good burgers ,dogs, salad, drink and cookies for desert for $5.95 a person. So if you looking for something to do for a few hours I would still highly recommend going to the Detroit Zoo its a great outing for all young and old.
